Still Bill: The Story of Bill Withers
For anybody who grew up listening to & loving soul music from the 1960/70′s era, this film is a must see and well worth watching on the big screen. It concerns Bill Withers, who had a long string of chart hits, from his signature Ain’t No Sunshine (which opens the film), Grandma’s Hands, Lean On Me, and others. Filmmakers Damani Baker and Alex Vlack follow Withers and offer a unique and rare look inside the world of this fascinating man. Through concert footage, journeys to his birthplace, interviews with music legends, his family and closest friends, STILL BILL presents the story of an artist who has written some of the most beloved songs in our time and who truly understands the heart and soul of a man.

This event is produced by ChoiceCuts in association with new collective Fresh & Noble and is included as part of our programme of events taking place around Dublin. This screening will be followed by a night of soul music in tribute to this legendary singer songwriter.

We are delighted to announce an in-depth conversation between Lance Wyman and Linda King in our second room on Saturday October 2nd at 1300hrs.

In a distinguished career spanning four decades, Lance Wyman has received countless awards, runs a prominent design office and is credited with helping to define the field of environmental graphic design. He is a specialist in branding/wayfinding systems for public environments. Wyman’s logo for the Mexico 68 Olympics remains one of the most enduring icons of 20th century graphic design.

DJ Shadow returns to Dublin’s Tripod this October with his stunning audio-visual show launched in July of this year.

As innovative as ever, DJ Shadow brings his new concept in the visual and aural live experience. Playing tracks new and old, live inside a large sphere with visuals projected on to it which cleverly interact with the backdrop, it brings Shadow’s music to life like never before.

Robert Capa said that “If you’re photos aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough”. These portraits from Aidan Kelly are a selection of works starting from around 1998 to today. Most are candid works that shy away from posed set ups, trying instead to catch the subject close up with that glint in their eye or mid expression whilst they go about their day. Days like a very young Arveene at the Shelter, The Super Furry Animals in the Ambassador, Terry Hall in Solas or Candi Staton in the ChoiceCuts office, are days to remember.

Aidan Kelly capture the essence of a persons ‘good side’ and to show that you can see this love and respect in their eyes. Look, they don’t have to say it.
