A huge congrats to Cartoon Saloon for Song of the Sea, which has been nominated at the OSCARs for Best Animation. It opened in the states just before Christmas to great reviews. Based on the Irish legend of the Selkies, “Song of the Sea” tells the story of the last seal-child, Saoirse, and her brother Ben, who go on an epic journey to save the world of magic and discover the secrets of their past.
Cartoon Saloon have also, along with partners Penguin and Dog Ears, started their new kids cartoon Puffin Rock, on RTE2 and RTEjr in Ireland and Nick Jr in the UK which has already got the green light for a second series.
Narrated by Chris O’Dowd, (Cartoon Saloon also do the animations for Moone Boy) Puffin Rock is set on an island off the coast of Ireland inhabited by puffins. Puffin Rock is a playful animated natural history series for pre-schoolers and their parents it follows the lives of one family of puffins and in particular the adventures of Oona, a young puffin exploring the world around her in the ways that any young animal would.
Tomm Moore & Paul Young will be speaking at OFFSET this year March 6th – 8th. Puffin Rock will air weekdays at 8:10am and 1:10pm on RTE2 and RTEjr. Song of the Sea is set to be released nationwide in the springtime in Ireland.
